Police Story (1985)
I expected a standard Hong Kong action and wasn’t really prepared for the farcical comedy and I haven’t laughed so much to a movie in a while. It wastes no time to get rolling and Jackie Chan literally throws himself into Buster Keaton like stunts. Every action scene is impeccably well made, not just in outright intensity but with several layers of physical comedy. I am bit torn on the comedic elements. Some are hilarious, but other times they become simply too silly. The cake scene for example. And the phone scene is just completely detached from the rest of the story making it more like a separate sketch. The humor works best when it is naturally integrated in the narrative.
