Only God Forgives (2013)
Can cool stylish cinematography carry a film on its own? Almost. It was at least enough for me and I was probably just in the right mood for this of art film this night, because I can easily see myself being bored under different circumstances. This script would have been more talky with Tarantino and more shootouts with John Woo, but Refn brings his own take on super bloody ultra violence wrapped in symbolic aesthetics. There are plenty of religious and classical symbolism to keep interpreters occupied for a long while here, but I found it engrossing enough just to let the flow of the style and vibe take me along for a ride.
