The Holdovers (2023)

I am not seeing anything special with this one, not that it is bad, just not very interesting. It has a proper “old-school” feel to it and Giamatti is great as the slight misanthropic teacher, who has to look after equally misanthropic students over the holidays. Every character is basically insufferable and the character arc mostly writes itself. And I think that is what annoys me about this me most, how it doesn’t have any surprises or unexpected turns. It goes exactly where you expect it to. I did however enjoy the scenes with Giamatti and Da’Vine Joy Randolph. They had nice banter and chemistry.
