Double Indemnity (1944)
I have had mixed experiences with noir. I was only lukewarm to the classic The Maltese Falcon, whereas I had great fun with such movies as Gun Crazy. This one however wins out on all accounts. Like in Sunset Boulevard, I really liked the use of narration. Even though it sort of starts with the end and we know mostly where things will be going, there was still plenty of suspense and things to uncover all the way through. The dialogue is super snappy and funny with rapid fire lines. It has all the elements for a perfect crime, but it slips through his fingers in a very elegant manner. Undeniably a great classic.
