The Wild Robot (2024)

This is definitely the The Iron Giant and Wall-E of this decade. Incredibly beautiful animation with a lovely cute overload of a story with an anthropomorphized robot. I took my daughter to see this and it was my impression from the other kids and parents in the cinema, that this had plenty to offer both young and adult. The general theme of parenting and literally “leaving the nest” plot hits just right, with good sprinkles of small jokes here and there. Under different circumstances I am sure I would have rolled my eyes heavily at its very sentimental and non-subtle morals that are spread on pretty thick, but it worked on me in this setting. There aren’t many surprises to how the story unfolds, so you know that the emotional plot points are coming from a mile away - which would usually push me away, but somehow it didn’t. Easily the best animation film in many years.
