Ida (2013)

I did like Pawlikowski’s Cold War and the Oscar Best International Film winners tend to be good films, but this didn’t do a whole lot for me. It has the basic similar black and white aesthetics that made Cold War look great, but while this does have some interesting framing choices, the shots are mostly boring. On the whole the film is rather dreary, with totally stone faced actors that are impossible to get a good grasp on. The story in the script has the potential for something, but I didn’t feel it got that across the screen very well.
