Decision to Leave (2022)
Like with The Handmaiden, I seem to be in a minority of not really liking this. In a way due to similar reasons with a case of a script that isn’t bad and has potential, it is just executed in a very cold and jaded manner. Neither the crime solving or the romantic aspects are interesting, and while I can acknowledge that it generally looks great with technically well made shots, it wasn’t aesthetically interesting either. The creative editing choices was a nice touch, I just wished it was done to something that looked more pleasing. I am not a fan of the very cold, and very digital, almost artificial, look he applies here. That is just a matter of style and preference, but I really thought it looked like a video game at times and the images are somehow too clean. And assuming the ending was supposed to have some sort of emotional impact to end the love story, again I didn’t care the slightest.
