Buried (2010)
I got to take my hat off for a director who can make this actually work. Single extreme confined location and one actor, and it doesn’t get boring. Creative camerawork and constant changes keeps things interesting within the tight limitations. The first half is clearly the strongest as this is where the fear and confusion is strongest. It did lose a bit of the tension once it was clear what was going on, and while it is a short movie, it was obvious they needed to add more to the story to keep things going with some rather unnecessary scenes like with the snake. It tries to tackle bigger themes of how corporations and the military will just screw people over in times of crisis, and while I could certainly imagine a company doing this, I thought the phone conversation he had with his employer was laying it on pretty thick.
