Inside Out 2 (2024)

As sequels go this was fairly alright as it basically does the same again with new emotions. It lacks originality, but it makes up for it by forming a compelling story about anxiety in a pivotal coming of age period for Riley. I do however think that it is pretty messy and not as pure in its concept as the first. The new extra emotions beside anxiety are underused and mostly unnecessary and the whole quest inside the fantastical world of Riley’s mind is mostly just random stuff strewn together. Of course it has always been a simplified metaphor for mental states, the stuff inside the head this time around feels even more detached from anything substantial. Random cartoon or video game characters randomly appears, and while the conclusion pointing out that Riley needs all her different conflicting character traits to make her who she is was nicely done, it just didn’t came together as beautifully as the first time around.
