Yi Yi (2000)

This was like a slice of life story only on a grander scale. Plenty of big drama among everyday life. Which is of course more naturalistic as big and small things all happen simultaneous. Despite sometimes being a bit difficult to keep track of all the characters and where they were in their own little narrative, the film held my attention and interest all the way through. It is okay to miss some details here and there, as the flow of the story still feels very natural. There is likely some cultural distance at work here again for me, because while I liked everything on screen, it never really got under my skin to be fully engaged in this family. I must admit though, that the final words spoken by Yang-Yang has some strong poetic beauty and really sums up the entire 3 hours in a lovely succinct manner.
