Modern Times (1936)
It is Chaplin and a worthy classic for many good reasons. The production designs are impressive and the themes of working people being crushed by the industrial grind has stayed relevant and recognizable for almost a century. I am sure Jeff Bezos is taking notes on efficiency here. I did like the gags and humor in most scenes, Chaplin is charming and Goddard is lovely. Though some gags are drawn too long and I am again reminded off why I still prefer Keaton’s deadpan demeanor to Chaplin’s whimsical charm. The ending shot of the two walking into the sunset was however a very lovely ending, proving Chaplin’s strength for cute romantic imagery that I never get from Keaton.
