Cold War (2018)
Every accolade and praise the cinematography has gotten is well deserved. The black and white bring out the beauty and aura of both the characters and their surrounding, while keeping it all in a crisp look of a certain time in history. There is a lot of layers in these fleeting love story that spans decades. We have the story of two people who can’t find the right time and place to be together, set against a backdrop of beautiful songs and political propaganda atrocities as contrast. It is an interesting unique combination.
Romances on film are often a challenge for me, because so much lies on whether I can believe in the attraction. This didn’t win me completely over, and I think it is because Joanna Kolig stole almost all the spotlight. Tomasz Kot is mostly just there and sort of boring.
