The Summit of the Gods (2021)
Stories about mountain climbers, especially Everest, always has a mythical aura about them. Something that us mere mortals that don’t seek out life threatening thrill and record seeking adventures will never fully understand. But that just makes it forever fascinating. This beautifully animated piece of storytelling takes on the question of why mountaineers do what they do, and I think it greatly succeeds in telling a compelling story. The narrative is built around sort of a journalistic investigation which gives room to tell several different smaller stories in one, which all builds up to form a - not complete but still comprehensive - picture of the mindset that leads to people forever seeking just one more record to break.
