Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

While I am clearly missing out on a great cinematic experience at home, this was still fantastic and I liked it more than I thought I would. It surpasses the first one as it actually has a good story and an unexpected forth act. What is kept and has been enhanced, is how gorgeous it looks and how it balances on the knife edge of cheesiness, but its heartfelt moments feel genuine. It is not afraid of committing the story to some truly authentic emotional moments. Few action movies can make me misty eyed. Seeing Val Kilmer was equally lovely and heartbreaking, and I really appreciate how they didn’t just make it a nice cameo, but a pivotal story point for Maverick and the film. Tom Cruise is the biggest moviestar in history.
