Magnolia (1999)
A massive film with an impressive set of intertwined plots that holds together and I never felt lost. I was engaged with it from start to finish but also exhausted as it keeps a relentless tempo throughout. Every character story is interesting on their own and how it all ties beautifully together speaks volumes about Poul Thomas Anderson’s ability to hold the overall picture and make all the different plots and character feel like they are part of the same movie.
I am sure one can write long essays on what this film is really about with detailed symbolic interpretations. I personally think the good officer Jim sums it up perfectly succinct:
What can we forgive?
