Cemetery Without Crosses (1969)

An atypical French spaghetti western that tells a well known revenge story, but in an unusual way that makes it stand out. It gives time for longer shots without dialogue and it challenges the viewer on how we see the need for revenge. While the revenge may seem justified, the road they need to take to get there makes them just as evil. Despite its welcoming unique approach to the genre, it didn’t work for me. I think it lacks atmosphere and the characters lacks attitude, which in my book are big parts of effective westerns. The acting is very flat and unengaging, and even though the production design is of decent quality and I did like the look of the ghost town, there is zero atmosphere in this film.
