The Apartment (1960)
The black and white cinematography is gorgeous in this. Filmed as Hollywood was finalizing its transitioning into color, the technical level of the classic black and white look is peak here. The premise of this romantic comedy is great and I was digging it to begin with. Jack Lemmon is perfect as the guy whose career ambitions makes it impossible for him to use his own apartment. Despite the overall charm of the story and all the laughs it provided, it didn’t have the level of an all time important classic for me. Didn’t really feel Shirley MacLaine’s character got herself across the screen quite as much as Jack Lemmon did.
