Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015)

After being somewhat disappointed of Fallout I wanted to rewatch this, as I hadn’t seen since release and honestly couldn’t remember much about it. Was happy to see that this movie basically had all the things I missed in Fallout and it stands among the strongest in the series for me now.

It looks better, its runtime is better, the plot is formulaic with yet another story about rogue agents and people switching sides but actually engaging, there is a decent amount of cool gadgets without overdoing it and the action scenes was for me more convincing here. The tense scene at the opera is enough to make this rise above many of the other films. I like this more slow paced yet still very tense action scenes. A thing Fallout lacked. We also get a proper infiltration heist, that is also the right combination of calm methodical work and high speed tension. And last but not least, Rebecca Ferguson is phenomenal and easily the most interesting female character in the franchise. She plays the role of ally/enemy to perfection, where you are never quite sure which side she is really on.
