Unrest (2022)

I haven’t seen many Swiss movies and of course this one is about watchmaking. The history of time keeping is one I find quite interesting. Our modern way of keeping time is quite new historically speaking, and it is easy to forget how much the concept of hours and minutes control our lives - and our economy not the least. This odd movie explores the last part with a “story” (it can barely be called that) of workers in a watch factory, how they were under constant timing tyranny from the company owners set to a backdrop of a political anarchistic movement. The style of filmmaking is really odd but I kind of liked it. There are some odd choices to framing where characters are put in the corner of the picture and for example a massive tree is the center of focus. Combined that with hazy coloration and acting devoid of most emotion or drama. I admit it was at times a bit sleep inducing, but also admirable how committed the director was to the concept.
