Contact (1997)
This couldn’t have been better. A chance to see my favorite movie in an original 35mm film reel was like being 12 again. I think I have said most of what I can about the movie in my previous review, but seeing it in theater again for the first time since 1997 elevated the sound experience to something I can’t recreate at home. The special showing also started with a 20 minute introduction by Danish sound designer Peter Albrechtsen, so we were properly prepared to pay special attention to the soundscape of this movie. Given the actual story, sound is also a deeply integral part of this - including silence. The scenes with little to no sound stand out just as much as the high tension scenes with the incredible score by Silvestri.
