Pearl (2022)
This was better than X and feels like a more complete movie with a proper character focus. The technicolor imitation style is better, though still somewhat fake. We slowly get to know Pearl, first as a character to feel sympathy for only to gradually see her insanity. That worked really well, compared to X that just went straight to murder with no explanation or buildup.
However, I am still a little puzzled on the overall popularity and praise of this series. It seems quite ordinary to me and not nearly as deep or clever as it tries to be with its themes. But worth watching, especially for Mia Goth alone.
