Ravenous (1999)
There is some really odd choices when it comes to the overall tone of this film, but I like it exactly for that. It is very bloody and full of well made practical gore effects, combined with a strange soundtrack that sometimes create a comedic vibe. It is equal amounts both wrong and so right. The film does mostly take itself and its cannibal theme pretty seriously, but still keeps a self awareness of it being a bit outrageously silly. I wasn’t totally onboard because it never evoked any of the unpleasant feelings I expect from a horror film. I just generally appreciate that this film exists.
