The Wicker Man (1973)
An eerie slowly building horror in broad daylight. It is impossible not to see this in the light of Midsommar which I had some reservations about, but The Wicker Man excels with letting the premise be simple and letting it slowly build to the horrifying climax. The eeriness doesn’t come from big shocking scenes, but a very gradual sense of something being a bit off without it being fully clear on what exactly. The contrast between the lovely spring visuals and the growing desperation of the sergeant plays well together. And a horror musical - how often do we get to see that?
