Crash (1996)

Cronenberg explores similar themes of the relationship between technology and sexuality as in Videodrome and my experience with this is sort of similar. It is a daring, bold and unapologetic movie that is unlike anything else, but ultimately not very interesting. In appreciate how this is actually more grounded than Videodrome and there is an impressive commitment to extreme theme from everyone on set, but I am mostly at a loss as to why I should find this interesting for other than it being “daring and bold” to depict such a sexuality. I am not really getting any meaningful insights or thought provoking ideas about sexuality or society in general. I was sort of hooked at first, but the movie literally lost its steam halfway through with several pointless sex scenes in cars. I would watch The Piano Teacher for a movie with a much more interesting deep dive into unusual sexuality.
