Harakiri (1962)

While I am not able to fully connect and engage with samurai films, I can certainly appreciate the quality filmmaking here. The narrative storytelling in this is well written and engaging, with a structure similar to a classic folktale with big moral themes at its core. I like how this film in a way punctures the samurai honor codes and how it maybe isn’t as honorable as its reputation in all cases.
