Elephant (2003)
This intense uneasy film about a high school shooting provides no explanation or insight into the reasons behind. It is mostly just a neutral cold depiction of the how. The randomness and that with all the regular high school teenage things with bullying, insecurities, building an identity in day to day uneventful setting with nothing really happening, can also entail someone simply deciding to shoot up the school. It is effective in that regard, and I am generally fine with movies that have more questions than answers, but I don’t really think it has a lot of questions either. It is not really trying to do much of anything. That might be a point in itself though, but it didn’t really engage me that much into the subject matter and I think if you want to tackle such a controversial topic, it needs to be more interesting to justify itself.
