Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

At first this was a bit difficult for me to get into as fantasy isn’t really my thing besides LOTR. The good thing here is that it combines a realistic 1944 with a dark fairy tale setting in a well balanced manner that comes off as quite natural. The combination at times felt like a dark version of The Neverending Story combined with Shcindler’s List. Some of the CGI stuff was a bit hit and miss that sometimes pulled me a bit out of the movie, but the overall style and atmosphere held things together.
