Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966)
This is one of those instances where I like everything about the film more than the actual film itself. Meaning the technical, directing and acting aspects in particular. There is a lot of variation and dynamics within the rather constrained chamber play setting. The camerawork is often doing something a bit different than the scene before, keeping things fresh and interesting. All actors are bringing their best full of outrageous outbursts and behaviour with extremely well written snappy dialogue. But the actual story and all the drama that happened with this dysfunctional couple just wasn’t that compelling for me. It didn’t feel like real emotions and the deeper meaning was too wrapped in allegories.
