BlackBerry (2023)

This was way better than Tetris, but I still hope to see more films on computer history which is a topic that has tons of potential. While BlackBerry also has some authenticity issues with some exaggerated caricatures , the core of the story still feels believable and real. It captures the vibe of the late 90s tech innovation and business development well, and each of the three main characters played by Baruchel, Howerton and Johnson all have worthy arcs with success and defeat. It has a lot to pack with 10 years of rapid technology and business development compressed into 2 hours, which means you have to accept many things aren’t exactly a history lesson, I still think it manages to tell all the important aspects of that story. The technical innovative details, the cutthroat business decisions and the conflict between engineering and business culture.
