Run Lola Run (1998)

I saw this a couple of years ago and found it to be intriguing but also an annoyingly weird way to make a movie. Yet it popped into my mind a few times, most recently when I saw the X-Files episode Monday which has a similar plotline, and I appreciated it more rewatching this time around. This movie is pretty intense with its music video like fast cuts, 90s technomusic, a mix use of film and video, and of course Franka furiously running through the streets of Berlin.

The theme of free will and the butterfly is not new, but I see the interesting main difference here being Lola herself having much greater assertive control with how her strange screaming power enforces her will through. Unlike something like Kieslowski’s Blind Chance where events are more random with no one in control.
