Gun Crazy (1950)

A prototype for Bonnie & Clyde with this fast paced entertaining crime spree road movie.

It does a good job of characterizing Bart as this young man who just loves guns, but he isn’t violent of nature. When he meets an equally matched gun shooter at a gun show, she leads him into a wild life of gun violence and crime. The dynamic between the two are interesting and really well played by John Dall as he is the most fully faceted character. Peggy Cummins is fine, but I don’t think she fully fills the role of the crazy murdering gun loving women. She is a bit too “normal” so to speak.

Still, even after more than 70 years, this movie is a worthy entertaining watch and while it might not be as sophisticated as later incarnations of similar plot lines, I can appreciate where the tropes started to form.
