The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Another of those classic films I last decades ago and while I don’t remember all the plot details, what was still vivid in memory was Hannibal Lector and Clarice Starling. Both fantastic performances, bringing two characters to the screen that is impossible to forget. Both worthy Oscar winners.
From an entertainment point of view, this is a very well written thriller with a style that has clearly influenced both X-Files and Seven. In addition we get Jodie Foster as the perfect illustration of a woman stuck in a mans world having to deal with rampant sexism. She isn’t the usual “strong woman” type which sadly often just means the writers create a woman with stereotypical male strengths. She is both strong, intelligent, scared and vulnerable all at the same time.
