The Departed (2006)
This was a very entertaining long tail of twists and turns and plenty of Hitchcockian tension and suspense. Deceit upon deceit, all very cleverly written and executed. Perhaps a little too much sometimes, like how they both got involved with the same therapist seemed a bit too convenient. Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson are superb, and I am warming up to liking DiCaprio more.
Behind the exciting plot is a theme of struggling with identity for both leads, how they are trapped in a life that is not their own built upon lies, and neither of them is able to escape that. It is a pretty sad movie all around, the ending providing really no redemption for anybody.
