Rope (1948)

This is THE textbook example of how Hitchcock creates tension and suspense. We know something sinister that most of the character on screen doesn’t know. Simple as that, and we can draw suspense from it for the entire runtime. Add to that, this is a technical marvel with how the entire movie is composed of only like 10 different long takes. Everything taking place in real time, single location and great performances all around. And even though the skyline background is clearly painted, it adds a lovely atmosphere that surpasses any CGI city background.
