Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (2021)
This little movieclub I am running on Tildes is a fun way of discovering movies I might not have picked up myself. But this is the first one that really missed the mark for me.
I am clearly missing something. Maybe this is more interesting if one is familiar with the original internet phenomena? Because I got basically nothing from this. Utterly boring and pointless. It is well made. The whole blend of stop-animation and mockumentary is convincing and neat in concept. I just didn’t get the cuteness or the supposed profound deepness. Nothing at all. This could maybe have worked as a 20 minute short, but even at a short feature running time of 90 minutes, it still dragged immensely.
