mother! (2017)

Oh man, poor poor Jennifer. Just getting trampled over by everyone around her. This is like Black Swan blending magical realism with very up close and personal camerawork. There are plenty of symbolism that probably eludes me here as well. The overly religious allegories are hard not to miss, but what I took away from it lied elsewhere.

I guess living with a popular artist it sometimes feels you have to share that person with the rest of the world, which I am sure can be challenging. This movie takes that feeling to an extreme that it at moments becomes somewhat funny, and I am not quite sure what Aronofsky may be aiming at here - perhaps something about the price for art can be too high? Lawrence’s character clearly respect and admires the poet, but she also just want a regular life and some reasonable amount of privacy. The whole movie is a painful exploration of having no control over ones personal space and boundaries, all in the name of some higher purpose of great art or a new found religion.
