The Shining (1980)
Another of those classic films I have seen more than 25 years ago, most likely late at night in my parents summerhouse. Perfect location for many childhood film memories.
Apparently I saw the shorter European version, but I think that was a good idea. I didn’t feel like anything was missing and it sounds like the longer version messes up the pacing. As it stands here, I think this is perfect.
I know this a movie that have been analyzed and picked apart in long dissertations. Tons of theories and speculations. While some parts of that can be fun to look into, that is not how I am watching this film. I just submersed myself into the sensations providing by the sound and visuals. It really is a film that relies on the atmosphere and the insanity of Nicholson. I really liked the slower pace, the long shots and the general weirdness of what is happening. Not scary as such, but impeccably well made from start to finish.
