Twin Peaks (1989)

Seems like many are reviewing this for the entire series, but I have so far only seen the pilot. There is a big part of me that really wants to just binge watch the rest, but I am on a family vacation and there is a long day tomorrow.

Twin Peaks has been one of those phenomenon I have heard about for decades but never found an interest in before. It sounded like it was weird, artsh and surreal. I have since become more accustomed to that and seen a few Lynch films, but so far the pilot is mostly straight forward. I am officially hooked on the mystery of who killed Laura Palmer and in love with the town. Feel like we already know so much about half the town and there is not one character arc I am not interested in.

While it is mostly straight forward and even a little cliché in parts, it is still damn effective and also with some welcoming surprises when I thought I had it figured out where a scene was going. The start was especially effective and took me 20 years back to my own high school, where our principal had to do a similar sad announcement when a student was killed by a drunk driver.

I have a feeling some of that weird Lynch stuff that everyone talks about, is going to come in later episodes and I am not sure if that is good or bad yet. I hope I won’t be disappointed from this fantastic start but also prepared it might do things I don’t expect.
