Star Trek: First Contact (1996)

I have a conflicted view on this Star Trek movie. It is probably the most mainstream cinematic of the movies, but also one of the least Star Trek-y for me. It does of course deal with very important Trek history with first contact, Cochrane and of course the Borg. It is just for me - Star Trek isn’t about action or saving the world type of plots. Though I know it has plenty of those stories. We go straight to the action in the first few minutes and the plot keeps a brisk pace for most of the almost two hours. I miss the cozy moments with crew camaraderie and some change of scenario. We are mostly just inside the darkly lit ship full of metal. The Borg is one of the best enemies in the Trek universe, and I know their behaviour here is consistent with the rest of the series, too many elements felt a bit too plot convenient. Like how the Borg just ignore them for way too long and the whole scene with the beacon on the outside of the ship makes little logical sense. What did work though was the interactions with the 21st people - Lily and Cochrane. Cochrane that can’t see himself as this historic hero and Lily who sees right through Picard and his bloodthirst for revenge. Picards little speech is Trek history from the top shelf. It is still probably my least favorite of the TNG movies.
