The 400 Blows (1959)

This has been on my watchlist for a while and I can’t quite remember why it was added, but likely because it is regarded a classic. I was very impressed by the performance from the young lead. Good child actors is a rare sight. I also greatly appreciated how this coming-of-age story was solely told from the kids perspective. It may over 60 years old, but there is something forever universal portrayal of being a child in an adult world. The boredom, restlessness, feeling unwanted and misunderstood.

I really can’t find much outright wrong or bad with this classic film, but it also didn’t do a whole lot for me. I think it comes down the curse of classic very influential films. Countless big name directors have named this film as one of their favorites, so its influence is present in the last 60 years of film history. So I was interested in what was happening on screen, just not particularly emotionally engaged.
