Videodrome (1983)

Horror isn’t a genre I watch that much. If it hits right it can be something that really gets under my skin, like Martyrs, otherwise it mostly fall flat for me. I kinda liked the first half of this, where it was a bit more toned down psychological hallucination horror. Like 8mm meets Hellraiser with a bit of The Ring. How the hunt for ever more extreme content pulls him and how he looses sense of reality around was well done. The tv that turned into a biological breathing thing was delightfully creepy. However, the movie lost me in the second half were it went into more outright body horror. The practical effects was impressively creepy made, but the more psychological hook was lost on me in the process.

It is clearly a movie one can put a lot of interpretations in. How tv and reality melts together. How we seek out ever more extreme content - especially for porn which also today always seem to go into more and more extremes to satisfy its users. It just got a tad too strange for me to keep hooked all the way through.
