Office Space (1999)
I am lucky to generally have worked at good places without so much management crap we see satired here, but even so the stabs at corperate culture depicted here still hits true more than twenty years later. Basically Dilbert The Movie in many ways by seeing through all the corperate bullshit and management speak, with a story about that most people just want a decent job and not something to define their lives with. A mentality that is often impossible to understand for management. And since I am more or less working with management now, I really really try to avoid the bullshit LinkedIn stuff, but it creeps in on you.
Anyways, as a movie it is funny in the recognizable chuckling kind of way. Not rolling on the floor laughing and the jokes are generally well spread out so it doesn’t become too much. It is filled with small incredible moments of insight and comedy, and the framing story that binds it all together works for what it needs to do, but it is not amazing - which hold the movie back a bit for me to become a true comedy masterpiece. Yet in a way, its lackluster story is also the perfect fit this movie. It is not supposed to be grand or exciting. Their plan hits reality hard and takes them back to Earth, which fits the overall message - if there is such - about it being okay to just live a good enough live that isn’t defined by a career and the constant chase for promotion.
