The Straight Story (1999)

It is likely not possible to make a clever remark about how this movie lives up to its name, but it is really just beautifully straight - in every positive sense of the word. From A to B where both the journey and the destination is important. There is a lot of heart to how Alvin is portrayed by Farnsworth and an equal amount of love shown for the midwest by the camerawork. What I like about it is that while it may be sentimental, it is never overly so. I mostly get a sense of “it is what is” type feeling, and not a “it is hard to get old” or “the old world is left behind” thing that often comes with movies with older protagonists.
