Decalogue IV (1989)

Kieslowski takes the viewer into unconformable taboos and thougths with a father daughter relationship with incestious overtones. It is actually fairly easy to follow as both the father and daughter are speaking their mind openly sharing exactly what they think. All backed up by impeccable acting. As usual we are given more questions than answers here. While it is pretty evident what is lies and what is wishful thinking, truth is harder to crasp. Especially moral truth. He might not be her biological father but she was still raised as his daughter for 20 years, so we get into a “know it is wrong but it feels right” situation. While most viewers will think “gross”, Kieslowski doesn’t state anything either way. And with the sheer amount of step family porn in existence, it is clearly a forbidden desire that is out there.
