Rush (2013)

After the disappointment of Grand Prix I rewatched Rush to get a proper racing movie. It does has its technical short comings but it shines in letting the rivalry of Hunt and Lauda come to life with a convincing drama.

Both Lauda and Hunt are interesting characters with many facets. Both hugely competitive and with a complex relationship with their dangerous occupation. Hunt fears death off track but is reckless on track. Lauda respects it but also accepts the risks when needed to win.

It does have some cheesy moments and in the racing sequences its limited budget shows a bit - at least compared to Grand Prix where the racing felt and was real. However, there is a proper connection to what happens on track and off track. The championship matters as it is what motivates the two rivals.

While the main audience for this movie is likely Formula 1 fans, I am sure their partners would find it an enjoyable watch as well.
