Teknolust (2002)
This movie is just flat out nuts. The opening scene shows Tilda Swinton taking a used condom and boiling it to make some sort of tea, which she then serves to her three virtual clones that lives in her microwave.
I was interested in this movie because I hoped it would explore themes of artificial intelligence and how humans relates to technology, but even though the computer aesthetics from the early 00s pushed some nostalgia buttons, it was all in all simply too messed up and weird. I don’t mind the low budget, but none of the actors gave a convincing performance, the technical aspects of the whole cloning setup doesn’t make much sense and its attempt at tying it all into a love story fell flat for me.
I am sure part of my disappointment comes from me expecting something else, because in the end it has a few interesting moments where one of the clones and the “original” Tilda Swinton discover their sexuality, but the road to that moment almost felt like a bad campy X-Files episode.
