Our Hospitality (1923)
The framework is very familiar Buster Keaton terroritory. He falls in a love with a woman who for various reasons are out of his league and he has to deal with people trying to stop him from reaching his goal. He is not violent or aggressive but aren’t afraid to respond when his opponents are fighting dirty.
It is a solid framework that works quite well here again. Keatons dumbfounded expressions are priceless, the stunts are batshit crazy and most of the gags hilarious. The casual gunplay is exceptional. What brings this specific movie down is that most of the good stuff is in the second half. The first part with the train ride really dragged and wasn’t very funny. I think this could have been a tighter and better paced movie if it was cut down to around the 60 minute mark. Still worth watching for several individual great scenes.
