2046 (2004)
Wong Kar-Wai movies are all challenging but this was the most impenetrable yet for me. It has all the well known elements about love, loniness, intertwining lives - all accompanied by great cinematography. Yet it wasn’t quite as good as the cinematography in In The Mood for Love and while Tony is excellent as Chow again, his female counterparts never came quite as much across the screen as they do in Wongs other movies. As a science fiction fan I was intrigued by the futuristic elements at first, but it didn’t had quite enough going for it. Maybe this is a movie for Wong Kar-Wai experts, because I felt this mostly went over my head and I just want to watch Chungking Express again.
