Porco Rosso (1992)

This Miyazaki is somewhat different from the other three I have seen. It feels more like an adult film concerning themes not as clearly about childhood, even though younger audiences will clearly enjoy it for the flying airplanes spectacle.

The style of this animation reminded me of the classic Tintin series and it even had a bit of a Casablanca-like vibe in places. Marco is an interesting and mysterious character and Fio provides that youthful charm that is always present in Miyazakis movies.

While I did find this movie interesting and very well done in most aspects, I can’t really give it higher remarks because it was mostly just that - interesting. I was missing at least some emotional impact or elements that made me think beyond what we see on the screen.
