The Wizard of Oz (1939)

It is impossible to not know of this movies existence but other than that, I didn’t know anything about it. It is one of these all time classics I wanted to check off. It will not become a nostalgic masterpiece for me, probably too old to have that kind of influence, but can’t deny it was a good ride.

It feels like a live action version of classic Disney animated movies. Colorful characters, catchy song and dance, plenty of lighthearted humor, an evil witch and fun adventure. Still mostly on the lighter side. I think most Disney movies manages to tackle the big morales better with more finesse though  and with a little more actual darkness.

Judy Garland gets most of my stars. She is just a delight to watch all the way through.  The rest goes to the wonderful Technicolor and all the puns that cracks a smile.
